What is Floatopia?

Floatopia is a sensory deprivation healing space for your physical body, mental and emotional health, and spiritual growth. Each of our unique float rooms contains a tub filled with warm water, 1,000 pounds of pharmaceutical grade Epsom salt, and total silence. There is nothing holding you down. The sensation is likened to floating in outer space. There is no gravity. You are nowhere and there is nowhere to be. Just to be with yourself here and now.

Sensory deprivation is a healing treatment for your physical body, mental and emotional health, and spiritual growth. Studies performed in the United States and Sweden indicate that floatation therapy delivers wide-ranging benefits including significant reductions in not only stress, but also chronic pain, inflammation, headaches, depression and insomnia, all while lowering blood pressure and improving skin.

Doctors, athletes, and float enthusiasts are using Float Therapy for neurological, circulatory, respiratory, digestive, muscular, skeletal, and hormonal balance. Floating brings the body back into homeostasis because our bodies crave the stillness we find in the float tank.

What to Expect & How to Prepare

You do not need to bring anything when you come to float. We provide everything you’ll need for the float session in your private float room, including Fresh towels, earplugs, shampoo and soap, and there is a hairdryer to use afterwards, if needed.

No bathing suit necessary, you have your own private room and floating naked is the way to go. You can lose sense of where the water ends and your skin begins in there, you don’t want to feel anything restricting your body, be free!

Before your float session

Try to avoid shaving on the day of your float session. Because the water has high salt content, some people find it irritating to freshly shaved skin. We do provide Vaseline in every room for you to cover any small cuts and grazes. If necessary, this can help to cover shaved skin too.

You will be laying down on your back and relaxing so maybe don’t have too much caffeine or too big of a meal just before your float

Using the Float room

You will shower before your float. In your shower, there is a glass door into your float space, you enter the tank and gently lay down.

The filter jets might be on for a couple of minutes before they turn off and everything goes still and quiet and completely peaceful. This is followed by 30 – 90 minutes of total silence. As the session comes to an end, the lights turn on so that you know that you should leave the tank. The door to the tank is fully controllable from within, you can choose whether to float with the door open or closed.

There is also an interior light with all the colors of the rainbow, if you choose to use it. Almost all users, however, float with the light off.

After your float session

Take a shower to wash away the salt from your skin. Take a few minutes to get changed and come out to relax in our sitting area and have a cup of tea. This is a great time to integrate some of the powerful experiences that you have just had in the float room. Make a commitment to float on a regular basis – Floating is a practice, just like yoga or meditation, each session builds on the last one.
